A highly unusual project came along in the winter of 2016/2017. Three Brown Long-eared Bats had started to roost in the fire training rig at Cornwall Airport, Newquay, which was disrupting the training work of the fire crew. Proof, if any were needed, that bats will find any suitable access point and have varied taste in their roosting locations. After survey work a Low Impact license was granted by Natural England and I was able to work with the airport to exclude the bats from the structure, allowing the fire crew to go about their work and the bats to roost nearby without being barbecued…
